Well, its now 5 pm on September 11th, I just got back from the beach, went there for 2 hours or so with Sam and his friend Dave... The beach is beautiful today and the sun was shining... only thing that kind of sucked was that the water is way too cold for me so i did not go in. but it was still nice to go chill at the beach and relax after the long day yesterday.
Yesterday I woke up at about 10 am and went to go eat breakfast and then went to the pool to relax a bit before the tournament (EPT barcelona day 1a) started at 3 pm. When i showed up at my table, i looked around and didn't really recognize anyone at all. I was thinking o good, this is probably a soft table, there were maybe 4 old guys, and 3 guys who looked around 30 yrs old... and 2 empty seats with dead stacks to start. Before the tournament started I quickly asked one of the pokernews reporters if i could have a piece of paper and a pen so that I could write down hands so that I could post them here later. I wanted to have more detailed analysis on here and if i make it all the way till 2 am it would be hard to remember all hands and bets.
So I fold maybe the first 6 or 7 hands and i realize that the guy directly to my left seems to be very very solid and aggressive... i could just tell he was a good player and a pro by the way he conducted himself and the way he bet and his bet sizing, bet timing everything. he opened a few pots right away so i figured he was going to be difficult to deal with.
Here are a few important hands throughout the tourney:
The first hand that I played I had JJ and i raised to 150 utg +2, guy to my left calls and button calls. flop J 7 2 rainbow... I cbet 350 first guy calls, button raises to 850, Im praying one of them has a set and I will double up early. I decide to just call cuz if they have a set they are gonna play anyway and i'd rather get more value out of a move/top pair. The flatter folds, turn comes a 9d so now there are 2 diamonds. I check, guy bets 1300, I wait a few seconds and raise to 3100 and the guy instantly folds. So he obv did not have a set, and the guy to my left says to my pocket Jacks or pocket 7s? which was it? lol so i kno he is a good player obviously
So now i have about 13k... next pot i open to 150 with TT and get 3 callers... flop 9d 2d 3x... i bet 400.. 1st guy folds 2nd guy calls 3rd guy folds. turn 6d... he checks i check. river 8d... 4 diamonds out there and he leads 600... i check my cards not sure if i have the T of d or T of hearts... i see i dont have a diamond but still call anyway which i think was a pretty awful call... b/c he bet about 2/5 pot which im only beating a bluff... even if he flips a set and is block betting i lose.... well he had QQ with Q of d so i muck my hand and am down to about 11.6k
I pick up 78cc facing a raise to 175 and a call... so i flat on the c/o... button flats behind flop A 7 7 rainbow... initial raise bets into 3 players 525. first guy folds i quickly flat to make it look like i have an A and want him to stop betting so that if he has AK or AQ he will fire the turn for sure. turn 5 no flush draw out there at all. he takes a second and then bets 1350... i quickly flat again to make him think i want him to slow down. but also i dont want to raise there b/c he would only play with AA if he is a good player or A7 but early pos raiser prolly AA is only thing he would have AK i think he folds to turn raise maybe not tho. so river is J and he takes like 15 seconds before betting 1350 again... so now i know 100% he doesnt have AA and i know my 7 is good... so i put in a raise to 3500... and he takes 30 seconds or so to call... i show he mucks. up to 17k
I have 77 in mid pos raise to 275 w/ 50 100 blinds... good player on my left flats and everyone else folds, flop comes K 8 5 rainbow.... i bet 350 he calls... turn 4... i pick up gutshot... i check he bets 850 and i call thinking maybe he is floating with AQ or something and i want to fire a big bet if i hit 7 or 6 on river and maybe get paid if he has KQ ish. river J... i check he bets 2700 and i quickly fold... I 3bet the guy to my left twice with one orbit... once with J 10 and 2nd time with AK from sb to his button raise...
Im sitting with about 16k and i look down at rockets (AA)... there is a limper utg, so i make it 475 utg +2... limper is only caller... flop 10 5 3 rainbow and the guy donk leads for 800... i think about just calling but i think a call there looks really strong and he will only play on turn if he has one pair beat... so i decide to raise to 2100... im expected him to shove or fold b/c he has about 6300 left... he just calls and leaves himself with about 5k. turn J... he checks... and i shove my stack in pot was already about 5100 and he had 5k so he instantly folded and i put up the pot.
Im at about 19.1k and i am in the bb with 78 off... the sb completes (75/150 level) and i check... we are heads up. flop A 6 4 rainbow... he bets full pot 300... i call to float... also i figure a 5 is the joint and 7 or 8 may be good for 2nd pair. turn 5 NUTS! he checks i bet 500 and he quickly calls so i figure now he actually does have the A... river K he checks i bet 1500 and he quickly calls again and mucks to my 7 8 nuts... and said nh i had A3. up to 21.5k
Facing a raise to 400 utg +2 and a caller in mid pos... im on the button and look down at AA again... i make it 1325... the initial raiser calls and only has maybe 3600 left and the flatter folds... flop K 10 10 two clubs. he checks... the pot is about 3k so i dont wanna just shove but i also want him to think he has room to make a move... so i bet 1500 and expect him to shove or fold and he just calls... leaving himself with 2100. I immediately think he has KK or TT but im not folding to anything cuz he could have AK or KQ or even QQ JJ... so turn is an A... and he checks so i check behind... wanting him to shove the river and if he has KK or AK hes gonna call anyway. so river 4 and he shoves his 2100 i snap call and flip over Aces full and he shows KK and then mucks his hand... cooler obv up to about 28k. next time i was in the bb i received a walk and i look down at AA yet again and am disgusted lol
Very next hand after the walk with AA... the c/o opens to 450.... i have QQ in the sb and 3b to 1325... the bb is the aggro pro guy who 4bets to 3500 and has about 14.4k total... i take about 10 seconds and then 5 bet shove my stack and he says, "o this is so sick i dont think i can fold this, i call, i call. and flips AKoff and i show QQ and we are flipping for 29k pot. flop comes out first 2 cards J 10... 3rd card Q lol top set vs nut str8... i need the board to pair obv to win... turn 3 and river looks like a 3 but is a 2 so the guy doubles up thru me and we basically trade stacks. im down to about 13k
I 3 bet once with A8cc from the bb after a sb raised and he folded then 3 bet an utg raiser with AK and he called and then folded to my cbet on a Q 2 5 board... and then i raised QQ on the c/o with the sb sitting out and the aggro guy made it 1600 and i just 4 bet shoved and he folded showing an A. so i was being pretty active at the table. At the dinner break i had 16.9k... Within 30 minutes of starting play again... 4 new players were put at my table... johannes strassman, mike mcdonald, david benyamines wife, and the online guy Zigmund... all 4 solid players... well benyamines wife was fairly tight... so i was like o great now i have a table full of sharks... i lose about 3k just calling some raises in multi way pots with mid pairs and folding to cbets
Im at about 13.8k and i get A10 in the sb with everyone folded to me so i raise to 850 and the same aggro guy makes it 2800 from the bb... i decide i have good fold equity and it would be a nice increase to my stack if i shove and he folds... so i go all in and he snap calls with AQ... suckout time! flop 10s 3x 3s he has AsQx... turn Jd so i need to dodge a 7 outer and river 8s whew. my one suckout for my tourney life is now complete so i cant have any more for the rest of the tourney. About 5 hands later i open utg +2 to 850 with KK and SAME GUY 3bets me again to 2800 having about a 17k stack total. i make it 7600 and he says ok im all in i snap call and flip over KK and he tables QQ and looks disgusted. board 8 7 4 2 10 ship it... so i bust the guy and now have about 46k...
luckily strassman busted mcdonald, and zigmund got moved to another table. so with 3 of the 4 most feared players gone from the table... i start to go to work... stealing pot after pot after pot... i wasnt even writing them down really cuz i was opening like 3 or 4 hands per orbit and facing opposition maybe 1 out of 6 times... i cold 4 bet once with AK out of the bb after strassman opened to 1200 and button made it 3200... they each had like 14k stacks and i made it 8700... they both folded and the 3better told me later he had AK.
I get my stack to about 53k and on the 2nd to last hand of the night... im in the sb and the button who is a solid online tourney player opens to 1700... i make it 4925 with QQ and he tanks for about 20 seconds and then pushes in his 26k stack... i snap call and he shows A9... flop 8 6 5 turn 3 river J... ship the monies HUGE stack now.... finished the night with 79.3k and im in 2nd out of the players from day 1a. wooohooooo!
well i had to save this post and actually post it 6 hours later b/c the internet stopped working so here it is finally... day 2 tomorrow at 3 pm GL ME!
